Artificial Intelligence is no longer just a buzzword – it’s here to stay. It’s reshaping industries, redefining workflows, and raising new questions about trust, safety, and responsibility. As AI systems become more powerful and more deeply embedded in our lives, the need for professionals who understand how to govern, secure, and ethically manage these technologies has never been greater.

That’s where the Trusted AI Safety Expert (TAISE) certification comes in.

Developed by the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) in partnership with Northeastern University, TAISE is the first industry credential designed specifically to prepare professionals to lead in the age of AI. It’s not about coding or building models – it’s about understanding the risks, regulations, and responsibilities that come with deploying AI in the real world.

Built By Experts, Backed By Experience

The TAISE certification is the result of a powerful partnership between CSA and Northeastern University – two organizations with deep expertise in cybersecurity, AI, and professional education.

CSA is at the forefront of shaping global standards for cloud security and risk management. Their recent work on AI safety, including the AI Safety Initiative and the AI Control Matrix, reflects a growing commitment to helping organizations navigate the complex risks of intelligent systems. CSA brings the frameworks, the community, and the credibility needed to define what trustworthy AI should look like.

Northeastern University complements this with its Institute for Experiential AI, a hub for responsible AI research and innovation. Their EDGE (Experiential Digital Global Education) team helped design the TAISE program to be both rigorous and accessible – offering flexible, online learning that meets the needs of working professionals. Together, CSA and Northeastern have created a curriculum that blends technical depth with real-world relevance.

This collaboration ensures that the TAISE certification isn’t just another tech credential – it’s a leadership pathway for anyone who wants to shape the future of AI responsibly. As Tara Hanson, Training Project Manager at CSA, explains, “The response to TAISE has been extraordinary. Coordinating with both our partners at Northeastern University and the hundreds of volunteer contributors who stepped up to help shape this program showed us just how ready the industry is for this kind of training. When you see that level of enthusiasm and expertise come together, you know this is exactly the right time for this credential.”

The New Standard for Responsible AI Leadership

The TAISE is a comprehensive training and certification program that equips professionals with the knowledge to develop, deploy, and govern AI responsibly. The curriculum is structured around ten modules that cover everything from foundational AI concepts to advanced topics in governance, ethics, and security. At the end of the program, participants must pass a rigorous exam to validate their mastery of these concepts and earn the certification.

Here’s what participants will learn:

  • AI Fundamentals: Understand the evolution of AI, including generative models like LLMs, GANs, and diffusion models.
  • Architecture & Design: Explore how AI systems are built, trained, and deployed – especially in cloud environments.
  • Real-World Use Cases: Examine how AI is used in healthcare, cybersecurity, and content creation, and the ethical challenges that come with it.
  • Fairness & Explainability: Learn how to identify bias, apply explainability techniques like SHAP and LIME, and communicate AI risks clearly.
  • Threats & Risk Management: Dive into the AI model lifecycle and learn to assess threats like data poisoning and model manipulation using frameworks like NIST AI RMF and MITRE ATLAS.
  • Governance & Compliance: Navigate global regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and the EU AI Act, and build governance structures that scale.
  • AI Safety vs. Security: Understand the difference between protecting AI systems from external threats and ensuring they don’t cause unintended harm.
  • Cloud & AI Security: Apply Zero Trust principles, secure MLOps pipelines, and plan for incident response in cloud-based AI deployments.
  • Data Privacy: Implement techniques for anonymization, data lineage, and synthetic data generation to protect sensitive information.
  • Continuous Learning: Embrace MLSecOps and feedback loops to keep AI systems resilient and aligned with business goals over time.

Equipping Professionals for the AI Era

AI is moving fast, and so are the risks. From deepfakes and misinformation to evolving regulatory requirements and public trust issues, organizations need leaders who can guide AI initiatives with clarity and confidence. TAISE fills a critical workforce gap by helping to create a new kind of professional: one who understands not just how AI works, but how it should work.

The TAISE certification is designed for professionals across disciplines – whether building AI systems, auditing them, or shaping governance frameworks. It’s relevant for practitioners who want hands-on skills, managers who need to oversee AI projects responsibly, and executives who must set strategic direction and ensure compliance.

For those ready to take the next step in their AI career or help their organization navigate the challenges of trustworthy AI, this is the perfect opportunity.

As J.R. Santos, Chief Customer Officer at CSA, emphasizes, “The demand for trustworthy AI leadership is growing faster than ever. Through TAISE, we're equipping today's workforce with the tools to govern AI responsibly, combining CSA's industry frameworks with Northeastern's academic excellence to create a new global standard for responsible AI practitioners. With TAISE, we're taking that mission into the era of AI.”
